Forgiveness
Forgiveness runs in two directions in the Bible, and they're deeply connected. There's the forgiveness we receive from God — offered on the surprisingly light condition of honesty, "if we confess," and described not as a reluctant mercy but as something God is faithful and just to give, because the debt was already paid. And there's the forgiveness we extend to others, which scripture repeatedly frames as an echo of what we've received: forgive "just as God in Christ forgave you." That order matters, because it turns an impossible-feeling command into the passing-along of something already given us in overflowing supply. The verses gathered here speak to both the person crushed by guilt and the person struggling to release a grudge. To the first: your confessed failures were removed as far as the east is from the west — infinitely, permanently, not stored somewhere retrievable. Stop hauling back what God has carried away. To the second: forgiving isn't excusing what was done; it's refusing to let it harden your own heart, and drawing on the grace you were shown first. Both directions lead to the same freedom.
