Provision

Money is one of the subjects the Bible addresses most often, and its counsel is more practical and less pious than people expect. It doesn't shame you for having needs. Jesus explicitly acknowledges that your Father knows you need food and clothing — the needs are real, not trivial. What he challenges is the ordering, the way anxiety takes a legitimate need and promotes it to the center until the whole horizon is logistics. Paul's promise of supply comes with a precise word: God meets your needs, measured according to his riches rather than rationed against your circumstances. And running through all of it is contentment, which Paul describes as something learned rather than innate — the one thing more money reliably fails to purchase, since the gap between what you have and what you think you need simply relocates upward. These verses won't promise wealth or forbid it. They'll do something more useful: locate the floor of sufficiency, and challenge what sits in first position when you think about your future.

Matthew 6:31-33

“Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:31-33 — seek first the kingdom of God, and everything else will be added to you.

Haggai 1:5-6

“Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: "Consider your ways. You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don't have enough. You drink, but you aren't filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it."”

Haggai 1:5-6 — consider your ways; you sow much and harvest little.
