Comfort in Grief
Grief is not a problem to be solved but a weight to be carried, and the Bible treats it that way — with tenderness rather than tidy answers. Scripture never rushes the grieving or tells them to move on. It sits with them. It gives words to sorrow when sorrow has taken your own words away, and it does something our culture is often too uncomfortable to do: it names death and loss plainly, without flinching, and then refuses to leave you alone in front of them. The comfort offered in these verses is not the promise that the pain will quickly pass. It's the promise of presence — a shepherd who walks through the dark valley beside you rather than airlifting you over it, a Savior who invites the weary and heavy-laden to come and find rest, a refuge that is a very present help in trouble, near in the middle of it rather than after. If you are grieving, you don't need to read many of these at once. Take one. Let it be a companion for today. You are held, even when you can't feel it, by the One these words point to.
Psalm 23:1-4
