Fear
"Do not be afraid" is said to be the most frequent command in the Bible — which tells you two things at once: that God keeps saying it, and that we keep needing to hear it. Fear is not treated as a shameful failing here; it's treated as the normal human condition God repeatedly steps into. And notice how scripture almost never addresses fear by promising the frightening thing will disappear. Instead it attaches courage to a reason outside ourselves: for I am with you. For God himself goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Biblical courage isn't fearlessness or a personality trait some people are lucky to have. It's the willingness to move forward with the fear still present, because Someone trustworthy is beside you. The verses gathered here name what God gives in place of a spirit of fear — power, love, a sound mind — and testify, from people who were genuinely afraid, that seeking him brings deliverance not just from danger but from fear's grip on the heart. Whatever you're bracing for, start here. You're being invited to draw courage not from your own nerve but from the company you keep.
