Strength
We tend to picture strength as self-sufficiency — the ability to handle it, whatever it is, on our own. Scripture consistently points somewhere else. The strength it describes is not something you generate under pressure; it's something given, borrowed, renewed from a source outside yourself. Over and over, God is the subject of the verbs: I will strengthen you. I will uphold you. He renews their strength. The people who received these promises weren't strong in the usual sense — they were exiles, prisoners, nervous new leaders stepping into shoes too big for them. That's the whole point. Biblical strength shows up most clearly not where we're already capable, but exactly where we've hit our limit. And notice how often it's aimed at endurance rather than victory — the strength to keep walking without fainting, to stay content when there's little, to stand steady when everything shakes. The verses here are for anyone who's tired of pretending to have it together. They don't tell you to try harder. They tell you where to look when your own reserves are clearly gone.
