Psalm 100:4
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.”
Reflection
The picture is architectural: gates, then courts, moving inward toward the presence of God. And the psalmist tells you what to carry as you go. Not achievements. Not a case for your worthiness. Thanksgiving. Gratitude is the thing you bring through the door. There's something quietly corrective in that, because most of us approach God the other way — leading with the request, the complaint, the emergency. Those have their place; the Psalms are full of raw complaint. But this verse suggests that gratitude is the natural entry point, the thing that orients you before you start asking. It changes who you understand yourself to be talking to. Thanksgiving remembers what God has already done, and a mind that has just remembered is in a very different condition from a mind that has only rehearsed what's missing. The instruction isn't to feel grateful before you're allowed in. It's to practice gratitude as the act of entering.
